Frequently Asked Questions
Tax preparation focuses on reporting what has already happened in the past.
Tax advising focuses on planning for the future.
Advisory services can provide you the information you need to make informed decisions instead of costly mistakes that show up in April.
Taxfolio Advisors provides EA and CPA-led tax strategy, small business tax advisory, S-corp strategy, and personal tax planning for high-income households. We coordinate with your bookkeeper. If you need bookkeeping, we can coordinate that with our bookkeeping partners so that today’s decisions are based on your current picture, not on last year’s tax return.
Think of your CPA as an all-around player while your Enrolled Agent is your special teams player – focused on your tax picture. While CPAs are usually licensed in one state with practice privilege across jurisdictions, an Enrolled Agent is credentialed by the IRS and has federal tax practice authority for all 50 states. Many CPA firms hire EAs to complete tax work for their clients. CPAs and EAs work together on the same type of tax work, often in equal positions on the same tax teams.
Closed, reconciled books are important to allow us to provide you with estimated tax payments, entity decisions, and review of reasonable compensation.

This is a wealth strategy that follows the following formula:
1. Buy real estate assets that generate income and grow in equity.
2. Use the assets to borrow funds. This provides cash without creating taxable income.
3. Keep the asset until you die. The heirs receive a “stepped up” basis that eliminates decades of unrealized gains (they aren’t taxed on the gains).
- How to borrow against your assets instead of selling them and what kind of assets this includes
- How borrowed funds are usually not taxed as income
- Step up basis: How unrealized gains are eliminated
- How it applies to you based on your income
Yes, most likely. The IRS likely sees your side hustle as a business. That means you need to track information monthly, have separate banking, report all income from pay apps, and claim deductions to lower tax liability. We can help you sort this out.
If you provide rideshare, delivery, or online services that result in online payments to you, the IRS can track the payments through third-party apps like Venmo and sometimes the platform you work with will issue a 1099. Let’s make sure you report your gig income correctly and let’s talk about how to access the 1099, if one has been issued to you.
Let’s get ahead of your taxes. By evaluating where your business is now and providing you with information to make the decision that’s right for you, we can make plans to avoid tax headaches with the IRS.
It depends. Some may benefit from a formation while others do not need to take this step. We can discuss the ins and outs of what a particular formation requires and what it costs.
